Our Instructors & Staff Members
Our Instructors have spent many years devoted to training in the art of Karate and other Martial Arts and have attained a certain level of expertise to qualify them as teachers and also mentors.
Through extensive testing, certification and tournament level competition, our staff has attained mastery in this martial art and now enjoy sharing their skill and passing it on to their students.
Phil Collins (SCHOOL OWNER) (Yon Dan)
Sensei began Karate training in, (Shorin-ryu Karate USA, Under the direction of Master Ansei Ueshiro) and was promoted by Sensei Judy Barnhart and Hanshi Scaglione to Sho-dan. After several years and the passing of Master Ueshiro, Sensei returned to the roots of Shorin-ryu Karate and it's founder Shoshin Nagamine. Sensei was promoted to Yodan in 2005 by Takayoshi ( Soke ) Nagamine.

Kalani Monios (CHIEF INSTRUCTOR) (San Dan)
Sensei Kalani was promoted by Soke Takayoshi Nagamine to San-Dan in the fall of 2008. He has been a corner stone of stability and spirit at Indian River Karate for several years. Named Chief Instructor in 2007 by Sensei Phil Collins. Sensei Kalani is also a proud member of North American Matsubayashi-Ryu Association. . . .

Kris Denny (SENSEI) (Sho Dan)
We are pleased to have the talent and energy of an experienced Shorin-Ryu Karateka. Kris has many successful years training in Shorin-ryu Karate USA. He joined us at Indian River Karate School and continues his training to bring it to a new level and share it with his students. He began training in Shorin-Ryu in 2002 under Shorin-Ryu USA. He was promoted to Shodan in May, 2009. He is very excited to have the opportunity to both teach and to continue learning at Indian River Karate School.

Ron Bearer Jr. (RENSHI) (Roku Dan)
We are excited to bring a new martial art to our school: Traditional Ju-Jitsu. Ron Bearer Jr. comes to us with 26 years of training in the art of the original Japanese Ju-Jitsu. He has tested his art in many competitions with great success and has a wealth of knowledge to share with his students. . . .

Deb Alexander (TAI CHI) (Instructor)
Certified: YOGA, Pilates, Group Fitness & Massage Therapists. Her TAI CHI instructional focus is a combination of Balance, Coordination, & Relaxation.

Charlie Williams (San-kyu)
Sempai Charlie Williams joined or school after several years of martial Arts training in another style. He has been a strong hard working and dedicated student. He now shares his skill as an assistant instructor and works with our youngest deshi. Sempai Charlie has also joined the Sea Cadets (US Navy) and shares that discipline with our students.
