Indian River Karate School was established in 2001 in the Sharpes Plaza on US Route 1. We continue the tradition established by Master Shoshin Nagamine and we teach the Essence of Okinawan Karate-do.
Sensei Phil Collins now passes on the Essence of Matsubayashi-Ryu (Shorin-ryu) Karate do, to a new generation of Karate students in the Cocoa, Florida area. The same traditions, without change, as it has been passed down from one Sensei to another, for generations.
In addition to formal classes, we have student workshops to explore Kata, Bun-Kai, and the use of weapons. Bun-Kai (the application of Kata), in every class and for every age, makes the Kata come alive. Kata is the foundation of our style, and can never be altered. We encourage visitors from any Karate style to visit.. We work hard to keep our Kata the way it was intended and build our knowledge of how and why.
